Are you just like me, stuck wondering how to find your IP address?

I recently had to troubleshoot an issue with my home network and needed to find my IP address. I wasn’t sure how to do it, but after a little bit of research, I discovered that it’s actually a pretty simple process, and there are a few different ways you can go about it. In this article, we’ll walk you through the steps for finding your IP address on Windows, Mac, and Linux, as well as how to determine your public IP address from a web browser.

Step 1: Determine Your Operating System

The first thing you’ll need to do is determine which operating system you’re using. There are a few different ways to do this, but the easiest is to look at the logo on your computer or device. If it’s a Windows logo, you’re using Windows. If it’s a Apple logo, you’re using a Mac. If it’s a penguin, you’re using Linux.

Step 2: Find Your IP Address on Windows

If you’re using Windows, there are a few different ways to find your IP address. One of the easiest is to use the command prompt:

  1. Press the Windows key + R to open the Run window.
  2. Type “cmd” into the Run window and press Enter. This will open the command prompt.
  3. Type “ipconfig” into the command prompt and press Enter. This will display your network information, including your IP address.

Alternatively, you can find your IP address through the Control Panel:

  1. Go to the Start menu and click on Control Panel.
  2. In the Control Panel, click on Network and Internet.
  3. Click on Network and Sharing Center.
  4. On the left side of the window, click on Change adapter settings.
  5. Right-click on the network connection you want to check and select Status.
  6. In the Status window, click on the Details button. This will display your network information, including your IP address.

If you’re using a Mac, finding your IP address is even easier. Just follow these steps:

  1. Click on the Apple menu in the top left corner of the screen.
  2. Click on System Preferences.
  3. In the System Preferences window, click on Network.
  4. In the Network window, your IP address will be displayed under the “Status” heading.

Step 4: Find Your IP Address on Linux

If you’re using Linux, you can use the terminal to find your IP address. Here’s how:

  1. Open the terminal. (This is usually done by pressing Ctrl + Alt + T.)
  2. Type “ifconfig” into the terminal and press Enter. This will display your network information, including your IP address.

Step 5: Determine Your Public IP Address from a Web Browser

If you want to find your public IP address (the one that’s visible to the internet), you can do so from a web browser. Here’s how:

  1. Open a web browser (such as Chrome, Firefox, or Safari).
  2. Go to a website that displays your IP address, such as whatismyip.com or ipchicken.com.
  3. Your public IP address will be displayed on the website.

That’s it! You now know how to find your IP address on Windows, Mac, and Linux, as well as how to determine your public IP address from a web browser. With this knowledge, you’ll be able to troubleshoot network issues and more easily connect to devices on your home network.
